First Christian Church

Paris, Kentucky

The First Christian Church, nestled in horse country near Lexington, KY, was part of a multi-trade restoration project. Repairs to the clay tile roof of this magnificent structure were completed in 2002. The clay tile were blowing up, loosening the nails and as a result, tiles were falling from the over 100 foot towers. Through detailed inspections a restoration strategy was developed to include a new fastening system to prevent future storm damage to the newly replaced tile roof. The roof restoration plan also included a new Carlisle Syntec rubber roof on the flat roof areas.

The second phase of this project included masonry preservation. Again a restoration strategy was developed to include building cleaning and structural stabilization through the pointing of mortar joints and stone repairs. The structural integrity of the decaying stone masonry was improved by Proso Co products manufactured to strengthen stone units. Finally a protective coating of water repellants was applied to prevent water penetration into mortar joints and stone thereby adding life to this magnificent historical monument.
